Myth or Fact: Clean coal
There has been a lot a talk about clean coal. Is it real?
Myth. "Clean Coal" is just a marketing slogan.
In reality, even the most diligently scrubbed smokestacks release greenhouse gases, particulate matter, mercury, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides that are toxic to humans and the rest of the planet. Not all coal plants are required by the EPA to install scrubbers. Sometimes it is cheaper to close a coal plant than install scrubbers.
